Key Factors to Determine Plastic Part Thickness

  • Whether sufficient for structure strength

In generally, more thick the thickness, more strong for structure. But exceed a kind of range, the shrinkage or air trap etc. issues will be easy to be appeared, then reduce the part strength

  • Consideration for the resistance of the part releasing in molding. If the thickness is too thin, there is deformation when eject

  • Consider the tightening force in assembly

  • If there are metal insert in part, consider the strength around the metal insert. uneven shrinkage if there are metal insert

  • Consider the hole strength. there is welding line around hole in the molding. This welding line will reduce the strength of the plastic part

  • If all of them you can satisfy, reduce the part thickness as far as possible. Thick thickness part increase the cost, increase the weight, increase the cycle time of molding
